There are many keys to successful oral surgery. Part of the key is the preparation before the surgery. Preparing for the surgery involves more than just fasting before undergoing a procedure. It involves making sure you have everything you need when you come to our office. While you do not want to bring too much, there are some things that you can have that will make the whole experience that much easier. Bring a Friend When it comes to what to bring before oral surgery, the top of the list is to bring a friend. There are many different types of oral surgeries. Most of them require some form of sedation. While a local anesthesia and nitrous oxide gas can wear off quickly, other types of anesthesia last longer. Because the sedation takes time to wear off, it is always a good idea to have someone who can drive you home after the surgery. Even with the lighter forms of sedation, you may not feel up to driving after oral surgery. A friend serves other purposes. They can help with the aftercare instructions and can make sure you are settled once you get home. After oral surgery, you want to concentrate on feeling better and it helps to have someone support you as you start your recovery. Other Things to Bring Most people have visited the office before they come in for an oral surgery, but it is still a good idea to bring in your health history before the surgery. You can bring in a list of medications you take. It is also a good idea to bring in any notes about what is going on with your oral health. If you have questions about the procedure or about what happens after the surgery, write them down and bring them along so you don't forget to ask them. Oral surgeries can help restore your oral health. The better prepared you are, the easier it is to recover from an oral surgery. Learning what to bring is part of the preparation for oral surgery.
